The story about the Haredi soldier who was shamed and kicked out of the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak synagogue in Beit Shemesh is not over yet, reports B’Hadrei Haredim: the soldier arrived at the synagogue this week, in civilian clothing, and was honored with an aliyah to the Torah by one of the members.
As, reported last week, a uniformed, 27 year old Haredi soldier, father of two, came to the Toldos Avraham Yitzchak shul in the Nachala U’Menucha neighborhood of Beit Shemesh to pray. At the courtyard entrance, one of the chassidim warned him: “Don’t enter this beis medrash in an IDF uniform.” Later on, when he did decide to go inside, he was verbally attacked by one of the men in the shul who yelled, “Get out, you impure person! Get right out!”
On Monday, close to 11 AM, the same soldier arrived to pray at one of the “shteiblach” (smaller shuls) on the lower level of the same building. According to the report of a person who was also praying there, “the other worshippers spoke with him nicely, even those that had shouted at him. They also spoke about the commotion that resulted from the story’s publication.”
He also said that “one of the people praying there even bought him an aliyah.”
They sell aliyot on a weekday morning? Seriously? That’s a much bigger story than the whole soldier thing…

Assad’s regime scrapes the bottom of the barrel for propaganda. It displays an old IDF jeep as “proof” Israel is aiding the rebels – but it is more likely that the jeep was in the hands of Hezbollah.

How far the PA will go to present the lie as the truth and the truth as a lie? Its claim that Jesus was a Palestinian is old hat. But now the “resurrection” also refers to “the Palestinian state.”
Israel should file criminal charges against France 2 following a government report Sunday that the television channel broadcast a film in 200 that falsely portrayed the alleged killing of 12-year-old Mohammed Al-Dura by Israeli soldiers. Charles Enderlin was bureau chief of France 2 when the Second Intifada, also known as the Oslo War, broke out. [...]

Residents of the Haredi Mea Shearim neighborhood in Jerusalem hurled dozens of rocks at Haredi soldiers Sunday, according to Jerusalem police. No one was reported injured. Firemen were called to the scene to put out fires that the attackers set in large garbage containers. When the police arrived, the stone attackers fled.

I guess we’re in the mood for Jewish farming, seeing as we got the sheep shearing image in the photo of the day (Synergy!). A Day in Sakon Nakhon: My Life as a Jewish Rice Farmer – this is the trailer, go here for the full, 12 minute movie. Have fun, and watch out for [...]

The media accentuate the negative and violent acts of a very small minority, over the mature and calm behavior of the vast majority of Haredim.

So they sell aliyot on weekdays! So what! A lot of people will send in a donation after receiving an aliyah. This gives them the choice, rather than the gabbai, of when to give the money. Some batei knesset charge dues. Some make appeals before kol nidrei. Some have committees that phone people & ask for money. A beit knesset needs money to pay its bills. How it gets the money, it seems to me, is up to the people who go there. There's no place for someone not involved in the congregation to criticize this choice of theirs. And being sure the soldier was given an aliyah was a way for the minyan to do tshuvah for their other actions. Kol hakavod to them.
people, what are we doing to one another? is this really how we are "to love their fellow"?
Anytime this soldier wants to pray in uniform, all he has to do is walk down the street and pray at Ohel Yonah Menachem. He will be welcomed with opened arms and he will probably be given an aliyah. Kol Hakavod to him for serving in the IDF.
Back in 2002 in the height of the Intifada I was serving during what I would consider very trying times. I had just returned to being religious after leaving the "herd" for many years. My friend took me to Bnei Barak to see Reb Chaim Kanievsky (who I had a wonderful experience with). My friend took me to daven in the shul right outside his home. I put my gun underneath a bench and was wearing my uniform. I prayed pretty fervently as someone might do right after meeting such a holy man. Without shame, not one, but two bastards came to me with a sefer in hand showing me why I should leave the Beis Hamedrish. My response to this article is as shameful as I felt almost 10 years ago and this brings nothing but hate in my heart. Hate that does not show outwardly rather makes me continue to want to avoid any part of the Haredi lifestyle because they my friends are the true Muslims of the Jews. Chasidus was not meant for the masses rather a select few. The masses do not have sustainable intelligence. Breeding and brainwashing masses into Chasidus is the direct results of such creeps hijacking what should be an exemplary community.
