Every year, Israel’s news media sends out cameramen to areas with Haredi Jews, trying to film them doing everything but standing for the Yom Haikaron (Memorial Day) siren.

This year, a group of Haredim, part of a group called “Dossim“, decided to turn it around, disappointing and angering the cameraman and news outlets looking for this year’s anti-Haredi photo-op.

On Monday night, a group of Haredim gathered in Jerusalem’s Gan Sacker, and one of the TV stations even sent there a cameraman, expecting to see the Haredim making a BBQ in the park.

But when it came time for the money shot, the cameraman discovered that the Haredi youth had filled up their grill with memorial candles, and were saying Tehillim (psalms) for Israel’s fallen soldiers.

The group handed out flyers to the cameraman and other media that showed up, that basically said, enough with your media incitement. The flyer said that this is a painful day for all of Israel, and why must the media be disconnected from the feelings of the public, and always try to pour salt on the wounds, and try to create divisions in Israel’s society.

The frustrated cameraman contacted his TV station’s office, and planned out the strategy for getting that missed video during Monday morning’s siren.
