Hitler’s Food Taster Says He Was a Vulgar Vegetarian

Hitler’s food taster, one of 12 women who were forced to risk their lives to make sure no one was trying to poison him, revealed that he a strict vegetarian with unseemly rude table manners.
Now age 95, Margot Woelk told the London Telegraph that he never ate meat and she does not remember him eating fish.
He told Joseph Goebbels in 1942 that he planned to make all Germans vegetarians, apparently stemming from his belief that a non-meat diet was part of Aryan purity. However, his cook before the war said he ate sausages, stuffed pigeon and ham on occasion.
His table manners were far less than pure. The London newspaper reported that one German soldier wrote in a secret diary, “Hitler eats rapidly, mechanically. He abstractedly bites his fingernails, he runs his index finger back and forth under his nose, and his table manners are little short of shocking.”

As president of Jewish Vegetarians of North America, I want to point out that, while Hitler might have been a vegetarian for parts of his life mainly because of health problems, there is much documentation of his fondness for meat. Whether or not Hitler was a vegetarian or not is really not the important issues. He was very much against smoking, by the way, but what difference does that make?
What we should focus on is that the production and consumption of meat and other animal products arguably violate Jewish mandates to preserve our health, treat animals with compassion, protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and help hungry people. In addition to contributing to an epidemic of diseases, animal-based diets contribute significantly to climate chage, which threatens all life on the planet.
And how is this relevant now?
Who could care less what Hitler ate. Evil deeds describe this devil not his choice of food.
