Hurricane Sandy takes out Major NYC Internet Provider

Hurricane-downgraded-to-Post-tropical storm Sandy has taken out Internap, which operates a global content delivery network and data centers.

Internap has emailed its customers the following warning:

Please be advised that Internap’s LGA11 facility is experiencing significant flooding in the sub-basement of the 75 Broad Street building as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The flooding has submerged and destroyed the site’s diesel pumps and is preventing fuel from being pumped to the generators on the mezzanine level.

The available fuel reserves on the mezzanine level are estimated to support customer loads for approximately 5-7 hours. Once this fuel supply has been exhausted the generator will no longer be able to sustain operation and critical customer power loads will be lost.

According to The Register, a Microsoft employee reported that submarine cables have gone dark. The Service Help Dashboard at Amazon Web Services reported all is well, as did Rackspace.

  1. Rc Fowler says:

Fortunately they are not the only provider!

  2. Edward Lobel says:

Rc, you mean to tell me you are not blaming this on Obama! Are you feeling OK?

  3. Rc Fowler says:

That's funny Mr. Lobel–as that is the typical tactic of the Marxist democrat party–if a republican were president now–the Marxist democrats would be blaming him!

  4. Edward Lobel says:

Rc, do yo even know what a marzist is, based on your usage, it apears you do not have a clue!

  5. Rc Fowler says:

It is you Mr. Lobel–who apparently does not have a clue as to the totality of Marxism–as there are two facets of Marxism–economic and cultural–and it was the cultural I was referring to!

  6. Rc Fowler says:

But let's not forget–it is the Marxism of the democrat party which loves to over tax and then "redistribute".

  7. Edward Lobel says:

Rc, you still do not know what a maxist is and I strongly urge you to go look up an actual deffinition before you make yourself look even more foolish.
Neither I or Barak Obama is a marxist or a socialist. Either in an economic or cultural way. Just because you disagree with someonedoes not make that someone wrong!
You really need to know what you are talking about before you look any more ignorant than everyone already knows you are!
Take it for what its worth Rc, I'm just trying to help you!
