According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Office, Major Tal Nachman, 21, from Nes Tziona, was killed Monday night by friendly fire near the border with northern Gaza. His family was notified. He will be buried today, 3 PM, at the military section of the local cemetery in Nes Tziona.

The officer was commanding an intelligence reconnaissance unit convoy, which was being secured by a force from the Givati brigade. A preliminary investigation suggested that the security force misread the identity of the officer, assuming he was a hostile, and began the protocol of arresting a suspect. When Nachman did not respond, he shot him in the back from about 60 feet.

Major Nachman was rushed to the Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva were he was declared dead.
