Decline in Violence

In a clear example of the difference between statistics and the reality they represent, the IDF has announced a significant decline in acts of violence and disorder since the beginning of the year 2016.

According to the statement, issued at the end of June 2016, in January 2016 there were 20 incidents of shooting, stabbing or ramming with a vehicle, compared with only six in June. Incidents of disturbance of the peace have dropped from 147 in January to a mere 33 in June. A sharp decline was also registered in the number of stone and Molotov cocktail throwing incidents.

According to the same report, since the beginning of 2016 148 terrorists were killed, close to 1,500 suspects were arrested and 16 Terrorist homes were demolished.

Incidentally, 148 in Hebrew numerology is kemakh-flour. It’s also mekakh-bargaining. And khamak-sneaked away.

And now, some useful quotes about statistics:

In ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies. Stephen Leacock

Statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamppost: for support, not illumination. Vin Scully

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. Mark Twain

Facts are stubborn, but statistics are more pliable. Mark Twain

Statistics: the mathematical theory of ignorance. Morris Kline

I can prove anything by statistics except the truth. George Canning
