Iran’s Chief Rabbi, Chacham Rabbi Yosef Hamadani Cohen died over Shabbat, according to Jewish sources in Iran.

Rabbi Hamadani was the chief Rabbi of the Iranian community since 1994, and prayed in the Yusef Abad Synagogue in Teheran, officially known as the Sukat Shalom Synagogue.

Jews have been living in Iran for 2700 years.

There is somewhere between 8,500 to 35,000 Jews left in Iran.
