Egypt’s Islamists are claiming victory in first round of voting on the draft constitution. While opponents are saying that fraud was widespread, with women being prevented from voting, judges telling Egyptians to vote “yes”, Christian voters turned away, people impersonating judges, and more.
The second round of elections are scheduled for December 22.
If the draft proposal is approved, the Islamists gain more power. If rejected, there would be elections for a new panel to write a new constitution.
In Cairo, Alexandria, and two other cities, the majority of Egyptians voted “no”.
But the Islamists are popular everywhere else, and apparently the Islamists did well there.
