The southern Gaza border town of Rafah became the latest target for Israeli fighter pilots Thursday morning.

IAF jets flew numerous missions over the town, which sits on the border with Egypt and is host to the region’s only crossing into that country.

For several hours air strikes criss-crossed the town, a hotbed of terrorist activities for more than a decade and the source of thousands of rocket attacks on nearby Jewish communities.

All morning long, Code Red incoming rocket alert sirens have been activated all along the Gaza Belt area.

Rocket attacks were launched at communities around Kerem Shalom, the Eshkol, Sdot Negev and Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council districts, as well as at the coastal city of Ashkelon. Five short-range Qassam rockets exploded in Eshkol, causing some damage but no physical injuries.
