Israeli gymnast Alexander Shatilov won a gold medal in the men’s floor exercise final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Moscow.

Shatilov shared the first-place podium on Saturday with Max Whitlock of Britain.

It was the first gold medal in international competition for Shatilov, 26, who finished sixth in the floor exercise finals at the London Olympics and 12th in the individual all-around final.

Shatilov won silver medals in 2011 and 2012 at the European competition after taking bronze medals in 2009 in the floor exercise at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships and the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
