The Ramat Hovav Industrial Council approved a project that would create Israel’s largest solar farm, according to a YNet News report.

Sol Project 7, a subsidiary of Solar Israel Ltd. won the bid to construct the new photovoltaic power generation farm, which will cover 120 acres in the south of Israel, and is expected to produce 35 mega watts of electricity for the national power grid.

The area was off-limits to agricultural and urban development due to wastewater evaporation ponds that had previously been in use.

Andre Suzan, a Ramat Hovav Councilman, said that “what was once an environmental nuisance will become a source of clean energy.”
