Rapper Kanye West told a Chicago radio station that he wants to take back the “ignorant compliment” he made about Jews  last month during an interview on the New York City radio station WWPR-FM. West said, “Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people.”

In an interview last week with the Chicago radio station B96, West said, “I thought that I was giving a compliment, but it came off more ignorant. When I said this comment about Jews having money and blacks not having money, I think it was, like, a ‘ignorant compliment.’ ”

He added, “I don’t know how being told that you have money is, like, an insult.”

The original comments had raised the ire of the Anti-Defamation League, while Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan defended West and said he should not apologize.

  1. He has made it plain and clear and he has stated many times that he has sold his soul to Satan in return for fame and fortune. He will never ever desire to be, just a common man! So does that mean that we should sympathize with the Devil??? Just as GOD will give you the desires of your heart, Satan too will woo you with many worldly and carnal desires!!! But at a costly price that many given the chance, are "willingly" ready to take! But the truth of the matter is, many of GODs people have inadvertently taken this coarse of action and LOVE IT!!! They too desire not to be just a common man!!!

  2. I think it shows some class to offer an apology, and to admit that you were "ignorant". In African American culture, "ignorant" is a huge insult, so he was really lowering his pride to use that term.

It also makes sense, coming from his background and culture, to think that having a lot of money is a big compliment. Of course, we would much rather be complimented for our middos, but not everyone looks at things the same way. If your life has always been about chasing money, and seeing that as your ticket out of a miserable life, then of course he's going to think it's a great thing.

I'm wiling to write this off as a "learning experience" for Mr. West, and move on. (If it happens again, he won't be getting a pass from me, though!)
