For some reason, today’s press release issued by U.S. secretary of State John Kerry actively ignores the announcement by Al Qaeda that they did it.

The secretary’s statement, issued at 12:24 PM, says the usual stuff about how the United States strongly condemns today’s “senseless and despicable terrorist bombings at the Iranian Embassy in Beirut.”

The press release continues:

“We extend our condolences to the victims and their families. We urge all parties to exercise calm and restraint to avoid inflaming the situation further. The United States knows too well the cost of terrorism directed at our own diplomats around the world, and our hearts go out to the Iranian people after this violent and unjustifiable attack claimed the life of at least one of their diplomats.”

Yes, except that, on occasion, those attacks on our own diplomats, and the diplomats of our allied nations, are organized and financed by the people who were blown up today in Beirut.

Is Kerry so invested in making friends with the Rouhani regime, he’s prepared to ignore almost 35 years of bad blood?

The statement emphasizes that “the details of today’s attack are not yet clear, and we support the Government of Lebanon’s commitment to conduct a thorough investigation. We call on all parties to cooperate with the Lebanese government’s investigation of this crime and urge that those responsible are brought to justice.”

Seriously? What do those poor shnooks at Al Qaeda have to do to get recognition around here? Why does he ignore them, hours after they had accepted responsibility for the deed?

“Acts of terror only reinforce our determination to support the institutions of the Lebanese state, including the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces, to ensure a stable, sovereign, and secure Lebanon,” Kerry concluded.

OK, was that a nod to Hezbollah and Nasrallah, or am I just being paranoid?
