London Mayor Boris Johnson had harsh criticism Monday for people who boycott the Jewish State, during a recruiting visit to Israel.

Johnson told an audience in Tel Aviv it is “foolish” to boycott “a country that when all is said and done is the only democracy in the region.”

However, in a possible effort to minimize the damage being done by the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) movement in Britain, Johnson said that boycotters in London are “a very small minority.”

The London mayor and Conservative MP is on a mission to connect with Israeli hi-tech business owners and bring them to his city.

Israel, he said, is “the only place that has — in my view — a pluralist, open society.”

It has been 10 years since Johnson last had dinner in Tel Aviv, he told Britain’s newspaper, The Guardian, but added he had enjoyed that experience very much.
