Susan Crown, a philanthropist and member of the billionaire Crown family, says she has switched sides this election year, after supporting candidate Barack Obama in 2008. She will be bundling big-number donations for candidate Mitt Romney this year, reports The Washington Post.

Many in the Crown family will keep their allegiance to the President. Crown and her husband co-hosted a fundraiser for Romney last year.

Crown said in an interview that she decided to support Romney after Obama spoke in favor of a return to 1967 borders as part of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

“There are a lot of people here who are very disappointed in the president,” said Crown. “Illinois is very important because it’s Barack Obama’s home state and it has a lot of independents. I’m an independent and I’m working as hard as I can for Mitt.”

Susan Crown is Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Illinois Tool Works, a diversified manufacturer of engineered products and specialty systems. She is also Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Rush University Medical Center, and chaired the Facilities Committee in instituting a $1 billion rebuild of its campus, including Chicago’s first LEED-certified hospital.

What a waste pf money. Obama has as much chance of making Israel return to 1967 borders, as I do of winning the mile in the next Olympics. However, with those comments he does entrench himself firmly in the category of Talking Heads. Where is that teleprompter?

  3. Great news! Jews are finally waking up to the fact that this president is NO friend of Jews or Israel. (Or, frankly, America, but that's another story…)

Are those the same 1967 borders that George W Bush advocated a return to? ""The point of departure for permanent status negotiations to realise this vision seems clear: there should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967," he said." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jan/11/usa.israelandthepalestinians.

Here's Obama's quote by the way "We believe that through good-faith negotiations the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements."

  5. Charlie Hall says:

" after Obama spoke in favor of a return to 1967 borders".

He did no such thing. He simply repeated the Bush policy as expressed in the Road Map. There is more to this than she is admitting.

  6. Bill Buckley says:

Boy, do I love to see the Obama side walk across a bridge to Mitt Romney. Thanks Susan for having the courage to stand up for what you believe is right for America even when your family may not follow. It's courage like this that will turn America around and put us on the right path to healing this great nation.
