Make-Believe Bris: Norwegian Official Suggests Jews, Muslims Do ‘Symbolic’ Circumcision

Norway’s ombudsman for children’s rights has proposed that Jews and Muslim replace male circumcision with a symbolic, non-surgical ritual.
Dr. Anne Lindboe told the newspaper Vart Land that circumcision in boys was a violation of a person’s right to decide over his own body.
“Muslim and Jewish children are entitled to the same protection as all other children,“ she said, adding that the practice caused unnecessary pain and was medically not beneficial.
Lindboe, a pediatrician, was appointed ombudsman in June. Her predecessor, Reidar Hjermann, proposed setting 15 as the minimum age for circumcision. According to Jewish religious law, Jewish babies must be circumcised when they are eight days old, unless there are medical grounds to delay the rite.
The children’s ombudsman is an independent governmental institution entrusted with safeguarding the rights of minors.
Ervin Kohn, president of the Jewish Community of Oslo, said that Norwegian Jews “will not be able to live in a society where circumcision is forbidden.” He noted that the mandate of Norway’s children’s ombudsman did not extend to devising Jewish rituals. Norway has a Jewish community of about 700.
In June, a spokesperson for Norway’s Centre Party, which has 11 out of 169 seats in parliament, proposed a ban on circumcising babies.

What IS a symbolic circumcision? Seriously, what did she envision Jews and Muslims should be doing? Get together and just eat bagels and cream cheese and lox?

Actually, if a man already has a circumcision, the symbolic ritual during conversion is hasakat dam brit. It's a symbolic pin prick which draws enough blood to be seen on a piece of cloth.
You meant Hakazat Dam. But that's not symbolic, it's a religious extension of a real circumcision that was not done halachically. But real, not symbolic, blood is spilled.

One has to wonder why a country as large and wealthy as Norway has only 700 Jews living there..Anti-semitism is ubiquitous, and very much alive and well in Norway. No surprise that a Norwegian ombudsman for Childrens' Rights is trying to ban ritual circumcision and replace it with "Symbolic Circumcision" What's next in countries with a policy of Judenrein. Perhaps they will replace Jewish pogroms with only" executions in effigy"
Perhaps this crazy ombudsman should start doing "symbolic" drugs… maybe her mind will clear enough for her to realize she's a total idiot! I'm trying to think of something a little more diplomatic to say, but I can't… so, yup, she can go to hell and the Jews in Norway… as well as the Muslims should continue following their religious obligation.

what a 'great' suggestion!(NOT!)… I bet they also don't have any issues with the 'symbolic hygiene' problems that go hand in hand with the un-circumcised penis…. morons… it's a well known and un-disputed fact that women with circumcised partners have much much LESS vaginal infections and hygiene related STDs, due to the lack of a 'germ collector' and a 'moist breeding nest for germs' in the shape of the 'sock' called fore skin (orla). there is nothing less symbolic than these clear facts.

Scandinavian people call the rest of the world culturally insensitive for daring to oppose their custom of massacring whales for the past 1500 years, but have no problem passing judgement on our perfectly safe and life respecting 4000 years old customs. The usual "do as I say not as I do" is NOT a proof of evolved thinking.
People who think like this woman should begin having symbolic sex and eating symbolic foods. It might tak a while but we will eventually be rid of them through these practices.
I think Norway should become a symbolic country. Ever since it became independent, it outlawed kosher slaughter, gave us Quisling, and sent its Jews with pleasure to Auschwitz. More recently, it gives Nobel Prizes to mass murderers. Perhaps Norway could merge with Syria.
why doesn't she start eating symbolic food and go jump in a symbolic fjord. Why doesn't she resurrect Quisling and marry him and have symbolic sex and symbolic babies and how about Norway gives her a REAL hysterectomy.

In talking about symbols, it is believed that the symbol of a smiling child indicates that the child has gas; so, Dr. Anne Lindboe must be full of it.
So she believes Jews should only have a symbolic covenant with G*d. Does this make her a symbolic bigot or a real one? Does she only symbolically pray?
