Approximately 70 people were killed in southern Syria on Monday, in another wave of violence between Syrian loyalists to President Bashar Assad and a growing group of protesters who want an end to his rule.
Monday’s battle took place primarily between army deserters who have joined anti-Assad protesters, and soldiers in Assad’s army.

The deaths came following a vote by the Arab League to suspend Syria’s membership in the group, and to convene meetings with the opposition.
Syria has evicted much of the foreign media, leading to discrepancies in accounts and difficulty in independently verifying facts.
