Some big name rabbis in the National-Religious (Dati-Leumi) community plan to participate in the Haredi anti-draft rally on Sunday, to show their solidarity with the Haredim.

Among these rabbis are Rav Shmuel Eliyahu, Rav Shlomo Aviner and Rav Yaakov Shapira.

The Haredim are protesting the Shaked Committee Bill, which will require that Haredim begin serving in the IDF and criminalizes draft dodging. MK Ayelet Shaked is member of the National Religious Jewish Home Party.

The position these Dati-Leumi rabbis are taking is that they will “not let the government divide the Dati-Leumi and Haredi communities… and harm Torah learning.”

Other Dati-Leumi rabbis are against the three rabbis’ participation in the rally.

Haredi MK Moshe Gafni (Yahadut HaTorah) told Makor Rishon that, to avenge the Shaked law, as soon as he is back in power, he will destroy the Hesder Yeshivas — where students both study Torah and serve in elite combat units.

MK Gafni also threatened to end all funding to the settlements, and to dry them out, as soon as he is back in a government role. For the record, his one government role so far has been, during the 12th Knesset (this one is the 19th): Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.

In the past, in retaliation for budget cuts that hurt Haredi families, MK Gafni, who Chairs the Knesset Science and Technology Committee, also threatened to intentionally create problems the Finance Ministry would have to spend a lot of state money to fix.

Disgusting. Take all- give nothing to protect their country

  2. Chaiya Eitan says:

They're threatening to leave the country and go to the U.S. I say – let them go! Let them find someone there to support them! The National Religious don't want the two groups to be divided?? The Hareidim are already dividing themselves from the body of Israel. Let them leave!

  3. I sometimes wonder why Hareidim are being targeted after these many years. Spite? I think it’s great having religious fighters, but not if they’re heart is not in it.

  4. Benjamin Fox says:

It's you land, fight for it, your forefathers did, so why not you? Your blind and leading the blind and you'll both fall in a ditch.

  5. Yechiel Baum says:

Is this what the religious learned from the holy Torah of non-defense of Eretz Yisrael? Hence, they are frauds!

  6. Do these rabbis even know the Torah or is it just their intepretation, didnt the Israelites fight other nations on their way to the promised land, and did the Lord G-d not drive out other nations whom practiced abominable and detestable things in the eyes of the Lord, so maybe these rabbis dont know the torah at all, and yes let them go to the U..S.A where they do allow the practice of homosexuality, in vitro fertilization, abortions all detestable practices, so they can study the Torah some more and change the laws to fit their own selfish interests.

  7. Carlos Font says:

I don't feel qualified to jump in on on this one although being a Judeo-Christian Catholic makes me feel I''m getting closer. I must say that reading the comments below ( Sientje, Yechiel and Chaiya ) makes me feel good. Reminds me of coming back from SE Asia and hearing "Make love not war" to which I added : Just let the bas___ds run you over.
