Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon, who has said the Likud Party and Israel’s governing coalition are opposed to a two-state solution, was elected chairman of the party’s Central Committee on Sunday.

The victory by Danon was a blow to party leader Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but he pledged to work with Netanyahu for the good of the party.

He was elected by the party’s Central Committee, which makes decisions for the party and can change its constitution.
