Israeli Border Police at Damascus Gate

A brand new watch tower checkpoint has just been built outside the Damascus Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem.

The new structure is situated on the side of the ramp leading to the entrance into the Muslim Quarter and does not interfere with the graceful ancient architecture at all.

But it does, however, ensure a constant, protected security presence at the entrance.

The checkpoint is one of three being installed.

The Damascus Gate area has been the site of numerous deadly terror attacks on Israeli security personnel.
