As president of Jewish Vegetarians of North America (JVNA), I wonder why our rabbis and other Jewish leaders are ignoring that animal-based diets and agriculture violate basic Jewish mandates to take care of our health, treat animals with compassion, protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and help hungry people.

    If only the were kosher in fact, as well as in theory.

  6. what about the sacrificial animals offered on the altar. These were in some cases totally consumed and in other times eaten (as in the Passover Lamb) . I cannot find a place in scripture that advocates vegetarianism.
