Camp Rav Tov

A Hassidic summer camp in Ulster County was closed by order of the county health department this past Thursday, with all operations to be terminated by Monday at 5 pm, according to a report published by The Daily Freeman.

Camp Rav Tov on Cherrywood Road in Kerhonkson plays host to approximately 1,000 girls, according to the report.

Ulster County Health Commissioner Dr. Carol Smith was quoted as saying the camp’s septic system was malfunctioning, causing raw sewage to overflow on to the ground, “down into the roadway.” Smith said she had been in touch with the camp several times about the problem, and that steps had been taken to deal with the problem, but that they were inadequate.

There was no comment from camp officials.
