President Obama on WJLA-TV Sunday

President Obama said in an interview that he has failed to advance the Middle East peace process “the way I wanted.”

“I have not been able to move the peace process forward in the Middle East the way I wanted,” he told WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington on Sunday, in response to a question on whether there was “anything you believe you failed at, not because Congress wouldn’t play ball, but that rests squarely on your shoulders and has you desperate to get that second term to atone for it?”

“There were a bunch of things that didn’t get done that I think are important…” the president answered. “The things I can do without Congress tend to be in the foreign policy area. In that area I have not been able to move the peace process forward in the Middle East the way I wanted. It’s something we focused on very early, but the truth of the matter is that the parties, ultimately, they’ve got to want it as well. So we’ve got a lot of work to do…”

Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s position on the Israel-Palestinian peace “process” is not fundamentally different from Obama’s. Last October his campaign stated: “With regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Mitt Romney will reject any measure that would frustrate direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. He will make clear to the Palestinians that the unilateral attempt to decide issues that are designated for final negotiations is unacceptable.”

But, much like Obama, Romney is committed to the idea of the 2-state solution.

  1. horror G-d willing there will be no next time. rotten egg started the arab spring which made it 100X worse on Israel and has the nerve to say he would do a better job ?

Only failure from Obama in this respect is that he didn’t even visit Israel & succeed with moving Jerusalem into the hands of Palestinian , but he had prolong the rightful Capital of Israel is Jerusalem. Obama should not of even made it to the Senate seat with his fraudulent Social Security Number & Real-estate fraud, he is a criminal & should be locked away for his crimes! <3

  3. Now if Obama and Romney can convince the Palestinians to accept a two-state solution there could be peace in the ME.
If it means more concessions by Israel and none by the Palestinians then you can forget a two-state solution.

listen to what the leader of the Pals is saying and those around him and those that support this guy and his 'Brothers in the hood' as he wants a good chunk of Jerusalem- a NO go – Jerusalem belongs to the Jews as their capital. they share this city. The Arabs would not. look at what is happening at the Temple Mount to the Jews. Hope Romney hears with both ears the truth of what is really happening in Israel and rethinks his position. At the same time Israel needs to stand strong and stop being pushed around by others opinions. it is their country – make Theodor Herzl's dreams come true – a true Jewish state. Arabs are free to leave and go join their many brothers in other Arab countries if they don't like Israeli way of life. they like fighting, apparently so do other Arab/Muslim countries. Jews prefer peace. take your pick – one or the other. Stay is Israel – choose peace! also check and see which side of Obama's mouth he speaks from -both maybe? can he really be trusted for Israel's best interests – I think NOT!
I love Israel and support Israel and peace in the Middle East.

While no Jew really wants to see a divided Jerusalem, we have to remember that the municipal borders are somewhat arbitrary and that even today the city is basically a divided city. Arab neighborhoods have completely separate education and transportation systems (with the public transit even running on Shabat) with terrible public services. And there is even one Arab neighborhood — Kfar Aqab — that is on the Palestinian side of the separation fence. It may be part of Jerusalem, its residents can vote in municipal elections, but don't try to visit there.

Also, 19% of Israel's citizens are Arabs and I don't see them leaving — in fact I see more Israeli Jews making yeridah!

Regarding President Obama, he has increased US/Israel military cooperation to the highest level in history. In the middle east, the mantra should be to watch what people do, not what people say. To be fair, I don't think Mitt Romney would change any of President Obama's policies on the middle east — the basic US policy has not changed since 1968 and there is nothing that has happened that would indicate a reevaluation.

    • Annie Cope says:

Charlie Hall Mr Obama has increased armaments to all nations that would buy from USA because he needs to keep the USA industry going – more jobs lost would be a catastrophe for him. He has increased much more to Israels enemies. USA will not change its policy in the ME until it is less dependent on its oil and more dependent on its own oil.
