President Shimon Peres wrote outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a “Dear Hillary” handwritten letter Thursday, expressing “bittersweet regret that I am writing this parting letter as your tenure as U.S. Secretary of State ends.”

Peres has been a long-time champion of the moribund “peace process” that the United States has engineered but which so far has literally blown up in Israel’s face.

The president praised Clinton for her “unflagging friendship and support, and for significantly contributing to strengthening the special ties of friendship and cooperation between Israel and the United States.”

He wished her future success “from the bottom of my heart,” and praised Clinton for having “championed the cause of women’s rights and the rights of civil society in general.”
