Peretz Sontag of New York has been found dead and will be buried in Israel.

Peretz Sontag, a widely respected Orthodox Jew from Monsey who has been missing for 10 days, was found dead in his car that crashed over a ravine.

Police are not treating the death as a suicide. After he was reported missing, police said that Sontag had been depressed and indicated he might harm himself. His business reportedly has been failing.

Funerals services for the father of seven are to be held Monday afternoon and the burial will take place in Israel, where he once lived before returning to Rockland County.

Legislator Aaron Wieder, who was active in the search for Sontag, said volunteers had combed the area where his body was found by a hiker. Sontag’s car saw the vehicle, which was not in clear view to passersby because of the depth of the ravine and the closure of a nearby road.
