Polish Jews Say Mosque Torching Reminiscent of Kristallnacht

By: JTA

Representatives of the Jewish community of Gdansk, Poland, said the torching of a mosque had “frightening connotations” of the Nazi-inspired Kristallnacht pogroms against Jews.

The association was inescapable, three of the city’s Jewish leaders wrote in a statement Thursday.

“On the eve of the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, during which synagogues were burned in the Free City of Gdansk, the burning of the mosque must bear frightening connotations,” the statement said.

Unidentified individuals started the fire early Wednesday morning. It consumed the mosque’s door and some of the equipment, resulting in damages to the tune of $16,000.

“In the face of this cowardly act of barbarism, Jews of Gdansk cannot stand idly by,” wrote the authors of the statement, Michal Samet, Michal Rucki and Mieczyslaw Abramowicz. “We express our deep indignation against the attack on the temple and the sadness of the fact that it took place in Gdansk.”

Dozens of people died in pogroms that broke out in Germany, Austria and Gdansk — then the semi-autonomous free city of Danzig — on November 9, 1938, after Nazi officials and activists encouraged locals to target Jewish homes and businesses as retaliation for the slaying of German diplomat Ernst vom Rath in Paris by a Jewish 17-year-old boy from Hannover, Herschel Grynszpan, whose family had been deported to Poland by Nazi authorities.

  1. Exactly how many people were killed or assaulted in this act of vandalism that is being compared to Kristallnacht?

    Apparently zero.

For reference: In the real Kristallnacht in 1938, 91 Jews were killed, and hundreds raped. Over 1000 synagogues were burned, as well as over 7000 Jewish businesses. And 30,000 Jews were arrested and shipped off to concentration camps.

I hate it when people make absurd, trivializing comparisons to the Holocaust.

Someone who knows nothing about the Holocaust can read the statement of these Polish Jews, and very legitimately ask, “Really? So this is what Kristallnacht was like? The burning of a door to a building and some equipment? So why the hell are the Jews still bothering us about something so insignificant 75 years later? Who cares?”

  2. As islamics everywhere continue to deliberately anger people who will not convert to their religious/political beliefs with their murders, rapes, and bombings we will all see more of this conduct; like it or not! Too bad they chose Kristallnacht anniversary for their retaliatory act but it is what it is and has nothing to do with Jews, Christians or any peaceful people anywhere. The face of islam is one of evil and anger…nuf sed!

  3. The Guardian says:

The Jews of Gdansk are wrong. Islam is a supremacist cult which seeks to wipe out Christianity, Judaism, and all other “Infidels.” As Turkey’s Prime Minister said recently: the Mosques are our fortresses, the Minarets our swords. The building of Mosques in Infidel Lands is the toehold Muslims use to wage Jihad against the West. A Mosque is not merely a place of worship like a Church or a Synagogue. It is a political act. Wake up.

The bombing of the USA 9/11/2002 by the savage Muslims was “Kristallnacht” too. “They have sowed the wind now let them reap the whirlwind”

WHO SAID THAT THESE JEWS HAD TO MAKE ANY STATEMENT? DID THE MOSLEMS PROTEST ABOUT THE HITTING OF RABBI SHUDRICH, THE PUTTING OF CROSSES AT AUSHWITZ AND AT UMAN OR EVEN ATTEND HOLOCAUST MEMORIALS?
