Soros-Funded Ideology Inspired

U.S. Engagement In Libya

Philanthropist billionaire George Soros is a primary funder and key proponent of the global organization that promotes the military doctrine being used by the Obama administration to justify the recent airstrikes targeting the regime of Moammar Khaddafi in Libya.

The activist who founded and coined the name of the doctrine, “Responsibility to Protect,” sits on several key organizations alongside Soros.

Also, the Soros-funded global group that promotes Responsibility to Protect is closely tied to Samantha Power, the National Security Council special adviser to Obama on human rights. Power has been a champion of the doctrine and is, herself, deeply tied to the doctrine’s founder.

According to reports, Power, who is married to Obama regulatory czar Cass Sunstein, was instrumental in convincing Obama to act against Libya. The joint U.S. and international air strikes targeting Libya are widely regarded as a test of Responsibility to Protect.

According to the principle, any state’s sovereignty can be overrun, including with the use of military force, if the international community decides it must act to halt what it determines to be genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity or ethnic cleansing.

The term “war crimes” has at times been indiscriminately used by various UN-backed international bodies, including the International Criminal Court, or ICC, which applied it to Israeli anti-terror operations in the Gaza Strip. There has been fear the ICC could be used to prosecute U.S. troops.

An organization calling itself the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect is the world’s leading champion of the doctrine. Activist Gareth Evans, who sits on the global group’s advisory board, is widely regarded as the founder of the Responsibility to Protect principle.

Soros’s Open Society Institute is one of only three nongovernmental funders of the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (www.globalr2p.org/whoweare/donors.php).

Board members of the group include former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former Ireland President Mary Robinson and South African activist Desmond Tutu. Robinson and Tutu have recently made solidarity visits to Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip as members of a group called The Elders, which includes former President Jimmy Carter.

Doctrine founder Evans, meanwhile, is closely tied to Obama aide Samantha Power, who reportedly heavily influenced Obama in consultations leading to the U.S. president’s decision to bomb Libya.

Evans and Obama’s adviser, Power, have been joint keynote speakers at events in which they have championed the Responsibility to Protect principle together, such as the 2008 Global Philanthropy Forum, also attended by Tutu.

In November, at the International Symposium on Preventing Genocide and Mass Atrocities, Power, attending as a representative of the White House, argued for the use of Responsibility to Protect alongside Evans.

White House Officials Want New

‘Progressive’ Constitution

At least three White House advisers and officials, including President Obama’s regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, have ties to an effort funded by billionaire George Soros to push for a new “progressive” U.S. Constitution.

Sunstein has maintained extensive ties to Soros’s funding, particularly with regard to a movement that openly seeks to create a “progressive” consensus as to what the U.S. Constitution should provide for by the year 2020.

Also, Attorney General Eric Holder sat on the board of a Soros-funded group pushing the same “progressive” constitution.

In April 2005, Sunstein opened up a conference at Yale Law School entitled, “The Constitution in 2020,” which sought to change the nature and interpretation of the Constitution by that year.

That event was sponsored by Soros’s Open Society Institute as well as by the Center for American Progress, which is led by John Podesta, who served as co-chair of Obama’s presidential transition team. Podesta’s Center is said to be highly influential in helping to craft White House policy.

The Yale event on the Constitution was also sponsored by the American Constitution Society, or ACS. ACS has been the main organization behind the movement to ensure a more “progressive” constitution, having received more than $2,201,500 from Soros’s Open Society since 2002. Attorney General Holder served on the ACS board of directors.

Sunstein has also been pushing for a new socialist-style U.S. bill of rights that, among other things, would constitutionally require the government to offer each citizen a “useful” job in the farms or industries of the nation.

Sunstein’s new bill of rights would also allow the U.S. government to intercede to ensure that every farmer can sell his product for a good return while the government is granted power to act against “unfair competition” and monopolies in business.

All this and more is contained in Sunstein’s 2004 book, The Second Bill of Rights: FDR’S Unfinished Revolution and Why We Need It More than Ever.

Escalation In Rocket Attacks?

In what would be a major escalation if proven true, the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip told this column it fired a rocket that landed just 10 miles south of Tel Aviv.

Abu Mosab, spokesman for Islamic Jihad in Gaza, said his group fired a Grad-style long range rocket at the Israeli city of Palmachim, which neighbors Rishon Litzion, about 10 miles from Tel Aviv.

This would mark the furthest a rocket ever traveled from Gaza into Israel. Tel Aviv is the economic hub of Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces refused to confirm or deny the report, instead referring a request for information to the Israel National Police.

Israeli police spokesman Miki Rosenfeld told this column he could not confirm that a rocket landed near Tel Aviv.
