Meat cleaver used in terror attack

An Arab terrorist tried to kill IDF soldiers over the Sabbath using his car and a meat cleaver in an attempted ram-and-stab attack at a security checkpoint in Samaria.

The terrorist tried to run the soldiers over near the Jewish community of Ofra, northeast of the Palestinian Authority capital city of Ramallah, then got out of the vehicle brandishing a meat cleaver.

“Responding to the threat, the force fired towards the assailant,” said an IDF spokesperson. “The assailant then exited the vehicle … and attempted to stab the soldiers.”

The soldiers shot and “neutralized” the attacker, who presented an obvious, immediate threat.

“The assailant was evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment,” the IDF spokesperson added. He was taken in serious condition to Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center.

A short while prior to the attempted attack, gunshots were heard outside of Ofra, local sources reported.

Israeli security forces were investigating to see whether Arab terrorists attempted and failed to carry out a separate attack, according to the Hebrew-language 0404 website.
