More than 600 rabbis have joined a campaign initiative called Rabbis for Obama.

The rabbis represent themselves and not individual synagogues or organizations, according to the news release. The names of all the rabbis can be found on the website barackobama.com/rabbis. Most of the rabbis are Reform or Conservative, although a handful are Orthodox.

Obama for America announced Tuesday that Rabbis for Obama is designed to “engage and mobilize grassroots supporters.”

“This list of rabbis represents a broad group of respected Jewish leaders from all parts of the country. These rabbis mirror the diversity of American Jewry,” Ira Forman, the Obama campaign’s Jewish outreach director, said in a news release.

“Their ringing endorsement of President Obama speaks volumes about the president’s deep commitment to the security of the state of Israel and his dedication to a policy agenda that represents the values of the overwhelming majority of the American Jewish community,” Forman said.

The number of rabbis signing on is more than double the number who added their names to President Obama’s 2008 campaign at the launch of a similar effort then.

Rabbis Sam Gordon and Steven Bob, both of Illinois, and Burt Visotzky of New York are co-chairs for this initiative. The first two started Rabbis for Obama in 2008.

  1. RABBIS?
    What Rabbis?
They are religious ministers, NOT RABBIS.
Just as one CANNOT call "Medical Doctors" people who learnt even in the best technical universities (I.E.: Cal Tech or MIT), but did not get a Medical Diploma by a SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, AND who do not follow medical procedures AND do not ABIDE BY MEDICAL STANDARDS, one CANNOT call "rabbis" people who have not studied in REAL Yeshivahs, have nor received ordination by REAL rabbis, and DO NOT ABIDE BY HALAKHÀ, that is the RULES of Judaism.

  2. Only 600 Rabbis voted for Obama. I hope only the same amount of Jews be limited to that same amount. Perhaps we will escape another tragic repeat of four more miserable years under Obama. It's time we Jews think Right, so it will go right. And reject the left which will drive us down their cleft to disaster.

  3. According to ECI:

"Rabbis for Obama" includes many leaders of the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) Movement, a movement inimical to Israel's well-being. It includes founders of the pro-Hamas “Fast for Gaza” initiative. It even includes one person who was pleased to dine with Iranian President Ahmadinejad in 2008 and another who says the United States and Israel bring terrorism on themselves. Several members of “Rabbis for Obama” are officials of Jewish Voice for Peace, a radical group that the Anti-Defamation League featured in its list of the “Top 10 Anti-Israel Groups in America.”.

  4. The Obama campaign seems to have no clue as to which rabbis would enhance the president’s clout among Jewish voters, and which are political hemlock. It’s newly formed “Rabbis for Obama” group, with rabbis from almost 40 states, includes some of the most enthusiastic supporters of sanctions against the Jewish state, including the Jewish Voice for Peace whose leadership is star-studded with names like Chava Bahle, Suttons Bay, MI, Rachel Evelyne Barenblat, Lanesboro, MA, Haim Beliak, Los Angeles, Lynn Gottlieb, Berkeley, Linda Holtzman, Philadelphia, Rebecca Lillian, Chicago, David Mivasair, State College, PA, and Brant Rosen, Evanston, IL. To date, nothing has helped to better define Obama as the most anti-Israel president since Jimmy Carter.

  5. If I say that I am representing myself as an individual and NOT a Rabbi of a congregation and then go on to list that congregation, what am I really doing?

This political manipulation is embarrassing to me as a Jew committed to Israel. In Israel, people overwhelmingly support "anybody but Obama", are furious at his betrayal of Israel,. and not very bullish about the American Jewish community. who they feel have also betrayed them, and more than a little bitterness at American Jewish support for a President who leaks classified information about Israel to the press (and other classified information) for his own ends showing he is loyal to hos own re-election over his country.

Yes, you can find some leftists in Israel whop support the gang of 600, but the Israeli in the street does not. After a few thousand years in galut, you'd think we would know better. Hamevin Havin.

  6. A MESSAGE TO THE 600 DISTINGUISHED RABBIS. I WOULD ASK YOU GO SEE THE DOCUMENTARY OBAMA 2016. IF AFTER SEEING THAT DOCUMENTARY AND HAVE NO SECOND THOUGHTS, THEN I WOULD APPLAUD YOUR STANCE. SINCE IT WILL BE WITH YOUR EYES FULLY OPEN. I WAS REFERRED BY A FRIEND TO SEE IT. YET NO WHERE IS THE MEDIA, NOR THE PRESS MENTIONING ANYTHING. WHY? HMMM? WHAT's THE AGENDA HERE?

  7. Todd, i would recommend you see the documentary based on Obama's biography. If after seeing that, you still choose to vote that way, a least i will know you did so with complete eyes open.

  8. These Rabbis for Obama are liberal wimps who grew up in the shadow of the Holocaust. The Moyels cut of more than they should have. These "Jews" feel safe in America, but could hardly stand up to being Israeli.
