Egyptian security officials said a strike by an Israeli drone killed five suspected Islamist terrorists and destroyed a rocket launcher.

Residents heard a large explosion Friday near the border with Israel. The officials told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the attack was in cooperation with Egyptian authorities.

The Israeli military said they are looking into the report.

Egypt’s military and security forces are engaged in long battle against Islamic jihadists in the largely lawless peninsula.

On Thursday, Israel briefly closed the Eilat airport, near the Egyptian border, after Egyptian officials had issued warnings of possible rocket attacks.
