The Iron Dome was called on for the first time in 2013 to intercept a missile fired by terrorists in Sinai at Eilat.

Multiple rockets were launched at Ashdod and Ashkelon this morning. The Iron Dome system appears to have taken out some of them.

Meanwhile, locals are reporting hits within Ashdod and Ashkelon. Medical personnel are reportedly treating people for shock from the attacks.

Rocket alert sirens are being sounded in Rechovot and Yavne.

Earlier today,Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an emergency security consultation . Participating in the telephone consultation were Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, IDF Deputy Chief-of-Staff Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and ISA Director Yoram Cohen. The Prime Minister directed all necessary action be taken in order to restore quiet in the south. Netanyahu said at a press conference that: “The IDF is responding forcefully to the firing against the citizens of Israel by the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip. If there is no calm in the south, there will be no calm in Gaza, and that’s putting it mildly. I call upon the residents of the south to follow the instructions. The IDF will do the job.”
