The Security Cabinet Thursday ended a bitter dispute between the IDF and Finance Minister Yair Lapid and voted to add to the Defense Ministry budget $780 million, two-thirds of the requested addition of $1.24 billion.

The only satisfaction Lapid got out of the decision was an agreement to appoint a committee to review the defense budget and to speed up the IDF’s scheduled relocation of bases in central Israel to the Negev. The move will free land for housing in the high-demand metropolitan Tel Aviv region.

Lapid dumped heavy criticism on the IDF, saying that its generals “earn more than the Prime Minister.
