A group of self-hating, anti-Zionist Israelis has used Yom HaAtzma’ut to launch a smartphone application to memorialise the Palestinian “narrative” of Israel’s War of Independence, and to promote the memory of the Arab towns destroyed as a result of the Arab decision to attack the nascent Jewish state in May, 1948.
The Zochrot organization was founded by Eitan Bronstein, a radical left-wing activist who has written that if the Palestinians give up their “right of return,” Israelis “will be sentenced to the shameful life of an eternal occupier… like all colonizers.”
According to the Zochrot website, the organization is critical of Israeli society for its stubborn refusal to admit responsibility for the “Nakba,” the Arab term for Israel’s founding, but makes no mention of the fact that Israel, in fact, tried to avoid that war by accepting the UN Partition Plan in November, 1947.
The organization calls for the “decolonization” of Israel and for the return of all Arabs who supposedly left their homes during the Arab wars of aggression in 1948 and 1967. In other words, the organization calls for the dissolution of Israel as a Jewish state, in favour of an Arab-majority “state of all its citizens”. No mention is made of the rights Jews would enjoy in the new country, nor of the mass exodus of Jews from ancient communities in Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad, Aleppo, Algeria and Morocco.
Zochrot spokespeople did not answer repeated calls for this article.
