IDF says that Batash was planning an attack on Israelis in which terrorists would cross over from Gaza into the Egyptian Sinai, then reenter Israel and attack Jewish civilians.

In August of this year, in a well-planned and well-armed series of attacks, terrorists crossed over from the Egyptian Sinai and killed 8 Israelis and wounded 40. Six of the killed were civilians. Five Egyptians soldiers were also killed. It is not clear if some of the Egyptians soldiers killed were participating in the attack, killed in a separate attack, killed by a suicide bomber, or killed in the crossfire. 11 terrorists in all were killed, 1 by his own suicide belt.

Israel believes the attacks were originated by the PRC in Gaza.
