An Israeli border guard shot an axe-wielding terrorist at Kalandiya security checkpoint north of Jerusalem Sunday morning, preventing an attempted terror attack.
According to witnesses at the scene, a Palestinian man in his 30′s arrived at the security checkpoint with a bag, took out an axe, and began running toward the border guards and soldiers stationed there. When the man failed to respond to the orders to halt, the border guard fired a first shot into the air, and then, when the man continued to ignore the warning, fired another at the man’s legs. Before being neutralized, he managed to throw the axe at a security guard, but no Israeli soldiers or civilians were injured in the incident.
Recently, there has been an uptick in attempted terrorist attacks at security checkpoints, with the IDF and border guards successfully thwarting them.
