This Bench Belongs to the Minor from Yitzhar

For those who have been following the bizarre story of certain IDF officers’ campaign against a 15-year-old minor from Yitzhar, the story takes on a new and ironic twist.

The 15-year-old boy was expelled, via a non-democratic administrative distancing order, from his parent’s home in Yitzhar and all of Judea and Samaria by certain senior IDF officers, based on secret evidence, which they claim proves the boy is violent and a danger to the state, but so secret that they can’t show the evidence to the boy’s lawyer or parents.

In fact, he’s so dangerous and the evidence is so secret that instead of being given a trial and jail time for his crimes, he had to be expelled to pre-67 Israel to roam free, except as night, when he has to be in someone’s home.

After ignoring the order and not leaving his parents’ home, having no place to go,  the other week, the 15-year-old was arrested and jailed at 3 in the morning, and then freed and then jailed and then freed  – and that was over just one weekend.

Since then he has been sleeping in different homes nearly every night, because the police keep harassing the families that host (or hosted) the boy, at all times of the night sometimes even more than once per night, and the hosts don’t want to go through that experience more than one night in a row.

But all that secret evidence against the boy apparently didn’t reach the ears of the Knesset guards who had no problem letting the dangerous minor in to freely walk around the Knesset halls with the country’s political elite.

On Wednesday, the minor from Yitzhar and his father went to the Knesset, where they sat and spoke with the leadership of the country from both sides of the political spectrum.

It certainly makes you wonder how dangerous the boy can be when he was literally able to stand next to, shake hands and talk face-to-face with the ministers and legislatures of this country.

The boy met with MKs Nachman Shai (Labor), Miki Zohar (Likud), Shuli Mualam (Bayit Yehudi), David Amsalem (Likud), Moti Yegev (Bayit Yehudi), Yehuda Glick (Likud), and Deputy Minister Eli Ben-Dahan (Bayit Yehudi).

The father and son talked about the bizarre situation and abuse, and described how the police were brutally harassing people in the middle of the night who hosted the boy, as the court ordered.

Some of the MKs promised to work to cancel the IDF administrative order, and MK Yegev said he would bring the matter up in the Committee for Child Welfare.

The boy’s lawyer, Chai Haber from the Honenu legal aid society, is currently in court trying to cancel the evening house arrest order.

Perhaps tonight he’ll sleep in an MK’s office.

The bizarre saga continues.
