Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Friedman, the Sadagora Rebbe, who was the eldest rebbe of the Rizhin court, passed away on Tuesday morning, after complaining of not feeling well.

After attempting CPR for about an hour, the rebbe’s pulse came back and he was rushed to Ma’ayney Ha’Yeshua hospital in Bnei Brak. But in the hospital his condition again deteriorated and he died.

The rebbe’s funeral will take place at 3 PM Israel time, at the Nachlat Yitzhak cemetery in Givatayim.

The Sadigora Rebbe was born on 5 Elul, 5688 (1928). His father was the author of “Knesset Mordechai.”

Rabbi Friedman established the Rizhin yeshiva in Bnei Brak while his father, the previous rebbe, was still alive. He lived on Pinkas Street in Tel Aviv, developed the Chasidic community in the city, and established a major study hall.

Some 15 years ago he moved to Bnei Brak. The Sadigor community consists of a few hundred families living in Israel, the .S. and Europe.

The rebbe’s Torah teaching was published in “Ikvey Abirim.”

Consistent with Rizhin’s tradition, the late Sadigora Rebbe supported keeping all of Eretz Israel and the holy sites under Jewish control. He was a vehement opponent of the “disengagement” in Gush Katif as well as of the Oslo plan.

His son, Rabbi Israel Moshe Friedman, is the rabbi of the Rizhiner study hall in Golders Green, London.
