PARIS – Thousands of Jews from throughout France participated in an Aliyah information fair held in central Paris earlier today (March 30) and organized by The Jewish Agency for Israel in cooperation with the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption and the World Zionist Organization. Participants met with representatives of dozens of Israeli organizations and institutions, including government ministries and local authorities, and received information on opportunities for life in Israel, Aliyah programs for young people, educational programs for teenagers, employment counseling, and more.

According to Jewish Agency figures, Aliyah from France has risen sharply since the start of the year: 854 new olim (immigrants) from France arrived in Israel during the months of January and February, compared to 274 during the comparable period in 2013. This threefold (312%) increase is due in part to increased efforts by The Jewish Agency to strengthen the French Jewish community’s relationship to Israel through educational programs, information sessions, and Aliyah fairs, as well as to the economic situation in France and communal insecurity due to anti-Semitism. 2014 is thus set to continue the significant upward trend in French Aliyah, which saw the arrival of 3,280 new olim in 2013, a 70% increase compared to the 1,917 olim who arrived in 2012.

In addition to the increase in Aliyah from France, The Jewish Agency has seen a significant rise in the number of Jewish young people interested in participating in Israel experience programs. Some 1,000 Jewish high school students recently participated in The Jewish Agency’s Bac Bleu Blanc (“High School Seniors in Blue and White”) program, which enables students at Jewish schools to explore opportunities for life in Israel following their graduation from high school. Additionally, 1,000 French Jewish young people are currently participating in Masa Israel Journey, a partnership between the Government of Israel and The Jewish Agency that enables young Jews to experience life in Israel, compared to 500 just two years ago. Some 70% of French Masa participants make Aliyah upon completing the program.

Two weeks ago, the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption and The Jewish Agency unveiled a new government plan to encourage Aliyah from France. The plan includes boosting the number of Jewish Agency shlichim (emissaries) in France, increasing marketing efforts, developing new immigrant absorption programs, and establishing a special committee headed by the Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office to remove obstacles to French Aliyah. The plan also sets clear benchmarks for increasing the number of olim, seeking to double their numbers in the coming years. This groundbreaking plan is the result of intensive cooperation between the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption and The Jewish Agency, along with the World Zionist Organization, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs, and Keren Hayesod-UIA, all of which are working together for the first time in order to strengthen French Aliyah. The plan was developed in consultation and cooperation with French Jewish organizations, both in France and in Israel.

    I remember reading recently that non-recognition of college degrees and professional degrees is one of the biggest obstacles facing French Jews wanting to immigrate. Huge numbers want to move but not if it means their educations are rendered worthless. Hopefully that gets resolved, because French Jewry is highly educated and skilled and would be a great asset to an Israel that values human capital.

  4. POLYGAMY, THE RABBI SHOULD KNOW BETTER
    THE RABBI SHOULD KNOW BETTER ; ALL WOMEN ARE ACTUALLY -HARMLESSLY- BISEXUAL ;

    AS ONE WHO HAS RETURNED FROM THE DEAD, I CAN AFFIRM THAT THERE IS A DEFINITE PURPOSE -ONE FAR BEYOND WHAT OUR LIMITED HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS MINDS CAN FIGURE OUT, ONE THAT I DONT KNOW, ONLY VAGUELY SENSE [IN THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN….]. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE SHOULD STOP TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT AND TRYING TO LEARN IT

    Israel Meir Kin is a threat to all Jewish women (SAYS) Rabbi Yosef Kanefsky
    Israel Meir Kin (LOOKS LIKE ME -AND I HAVE BLUE EYES TOO- AND MY COUSIN THE HOLLYWOOD MOVIE AND TV STAR DENNIS DAY. AND WE ARE (WERE IN DENIS’ CASE) ROMAN CATHOLICS. ALL BLUE EYED AND RED HAIRED PEOPLE ARE CLOSE COUSINS)
    A little over a thousand years ago, Rabbenu Gershom of Mainz, the leading scholar of Ashkenazi Jewry, enacted bold legal measures to protect Jewish women from abuse. (PEOPLE THEN WERE NOT AWARE OF THE ROLES THAT THE COLLECTIVE FEMININE AND THE COLLECTIVE MASCULINE PLAY IN LIFE)
    Last week a fellow named Israel Meir Kin poked his finger in Rabbenu Gershom’s eye, and now every Jewish woman is at risk.
    In his day, Rabbenu Gershom began to notice a disturbing and outrageous trend. Husbands, who found that they now fancied another woman, were taking advantage of the Biblical law allowing them to divorce their wives unilaterally and virtually without cause. And with the stroke of a pen, and the cold delivery of a divorce document, they were shattering the lives of their wives and families. Rabbenu Gershom strode into the breach and proclaimed a ban of excommunication against any man who divorced his wife without her consent. And to insure these husbands who lusted after another woman wouldn’t simply marry their new love without divorcing their first wives, he placed the same ban of excommunication on any man who married more than one wife, effectively ending the practice of polygamy (WRONG, ESPECIALLY TODAY) in Ashkenaz. Rabbenu Gershom was determined that Jewish women would no longer be subject to this kind of abuse at the hands of their husbands. (ABUSE AND MISUNDERSTANDING GO BOTH WAYS -AS THE COLLECTIVE FEMININE AND THE COLLECTIVE MASCULINE MANDATE AND DIRECT)
    In our day, Israel Meir Kin has undone Rabbenu Gershom’s work. This past Thursday, as about 30 of us stood in protest, he blatantly violated Rabbenu Gershom’s ban, by marrying a second woman without divorcing his wife. As if it were not enough that for the past 9 years he has spitefully been refusing to grant a Jewish divorce to his wife Lonna (allegedly unless she were to pay him hundreds of thousands of dollars), he has now completed his journey of shame by toppling the age-old ban on polygamy. (See the articles in this past Saturday’s New York Times, and the Jewish Journal.
    Make no mistake. Israel Meir Kin’s actions are not merely outrageous and despicable. His actions threaten all of our daughters and all of our sisters (AT THE COLLECTIVE FEMININE’S DIRECTION). I can guarantee you that at this very moment there are men who are watching, waiting to see whether Israel Meir Kin gets away with this. And if he does, there will be more Israel Meir Kins. And every single married Jewish woman will be shorn of the protection Rabbenu Gershom had afforded women for the past millennium.
    If you know Israel Meir Kin, a physician’s assistant now residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, or if you know someone who knows him, you must act now. Bring whatever legal form of social or economic pressure to bear on him that you can. This is a moment that has the potential to wreak havoc and misery for generations to come. Unless we act to stop it.
    ALL WOMEN ARE ACTUALLY -HARMLESSLY- BISEXUAL. MEN ARE NOT. LESBIANISM IS WRONG -AS IS HOMOSEXUALITY- BUT THE LATTER IS DEVASTATINGLY CRIPPLING AS WELL

They deserve the Muslims absolutely deserve them. Morocco and Algiers was simply not enough to teach a sordid lesson.
