Tommy Ramone, the drummer for the punk rock band The Ramones, died on Friday, June 11, 2014 at age 65.

Born Thomas Erdelyi, in Hungary, to Holocaust survivors, Tommy moved to Forest Hills, NY in 1949, where he formed The Ramones band in 1974 with Jeffrey Hyman (Joey Ramone).

Both Joey and Tommy were Jewish and their band defined, inspired and spearheaded punk rock music.

Tommy was the author of their hit songs “Blitzkrieg Bop” and “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend.”

All four band members took the name Ramone despite not being related.
