US Ambassador Shapiro Plays it Safe, ‘No Comment’ on Pollard

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro told American Jewish leaders in Jerusalem Monday he is not going to make any comments on the life prison sentence of Jonathan Pollard.

The “Free Pollard” movement is seizing on the upcoming visit of President Barack Obama to promote its campaign that the President should sign the order to release Pollard from jail. He was sentenced to life in prison 27 years ago for passing on for Israel’s benefit classified documents from the Pentagon, a crime that usually merits a jail sentence of 2-4 years.

“He broke the law and was convicted. I understand that it bothers Israelis and Americans, and I do not want to talk about his release,” Shapiro told the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem Monday night.

Earlier this year, Shapiro told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that he “can’t speculate” on Pollard.

Mike Huckabee, who is in Israel with approximately 200 Christian evangelists, called on President Obama to free Pollard.

“I don’t think there is a price to be paid politically for the president in the United States for that, but there would be enormous benefit in terms of relationship with Israelis for him to make that announcement just prior to his coming, or even while he is here,” Huckabee said.

  1. PRISONERS OF ZION: Jonathon Pollard: Yehonason ben Malka: He discovered that information vital to Israel's security was being deliberately withheld by certain elements within the U.S. national security establishment.

The information being withheld from Israel included Syrian, Iraqi, Libyan and Iranian nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare capabilities – being developed for use against Israel.

It also included information on ballistic missile development by these countries and information on planned terrorist attacks against Israeli civilian targets – obviously he wanted to prevent a second Holocaust. And because of that he is unjustly rotting in an American prison.

  2. Is Pollard the victim of a gross breach of U.S. justice? "Also, it is now clear that Pollard, in failing health, has been the victim of a CIA cover-up of a massive intelligence failure, with the agency blaming Pollard for the damage caused by a real "mole" inside the CIA who passed to Moscow the names of more than a dozen U.S. informants in the Soviet Union — namely Aldrich Ames, the head of CIA's Soviet-Eastern Europe division, who fingered Pollard to keep the CIA from discovering his own treachery.. The CIA did not discover Ames' role until well after Pollard was behind bars and it still isn't willing to acknowledge its mistake in blaming Pollard for Ames's crimes" (American Thinker, Dec., 22, 2010;.
NY Times stacks the deck against Jonathan Pollard).

  3. I will pray that the Lord G-d of Israel, will put it in Obama's heart to free Pollard in the name of Christ our Lord and saviour.
