US Jewish Groups Work to Sign People Up for Health Care

By: JTA

American Jewish organizations are going to bat for ObamaCare and are using social media to reach as many people as possible in an effort to convince them to sign up for health care under the Affordable Care Act.

During Tuesday’s Jewish Community Day led by the left-leaning National Council of Jewish Women, or NCJW, Jewish activists reached out to as many people as possible to educate them about the health insurance marketplace.

“Access to affordable and comprehensive healthcare is fundamental for living a long and healthy life, which is why NCJW worked for the passage of the Affordable Care Act and has been focused on its full implementation ever since,” said Nancy Kaufman, CEO of the National Council of Jewish Women

“Our goal for community education is non-partisan and apolitical. Our aim is to make sure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to enroll in affordable healthcare that best suits their individual needs and budget ahead of March 31,” said Kaufman. “I am encouraged by the array of participants in this Day of Action, spanning local and national groups across the country.”

Those participating in the action day were encouraged to host a special Shabbat centered on health care, hold a text study, write about the issue in their newsletters and speak to individuals in an effort to encourage more people to enroll.

Other participating groups included the Religion Action Center for Reform Judaism, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the Rabbinical Assembly, Keshet, the Jewish Labor Committee and Uri L’Tzedek.

Why can't we keep the policy we had if we want it? Why can't we be exempt from ACA like the people who voted for it?

  2. Edward Lobel says:

Again you are showing how much you hate President Obama and will comment on everything he does. I am not certain what you mean by why can't you be exempt like the people who voted for it? Members of congress are NOT exempt and had you been actually accepting the facts (as hard is that may be for you,) you would have seen numerous stories about congress people getting the insurance through the ACA, even an Obama hater like Randal Paul bought insurance through the ACA and he hates it even more than you do. Nobody has better insurance than members of our congress (except the POTUS,) they all have top of the line policies and they are paid with our tax money.

  3. Edward Lobel says:

My goodness! Jews helping Jews and not a republican amongst them! How can that be!

  4. Alan Kardon says:

Edward Lobel And they have always had the best medical coverage. And it was always subsides by tax dollars. And you are correct I do not like the current Administration. I have received nothing that has made my life any better. What have you gotten from the current regime?

  5. Edward Lobel says:

Alan Kardon I "officially" retired and have been on Medicare for a while. The plan along with an excellent supplemental and a great plan d, I am very happy. The total I spend on my insurance if far less under Obama than under Bush.
I have also received an abundant amount of self satisfaction knowing that President Obama actually cares about me and my fellow Americans which is a lot more than I can say about Bush and any current Repub/tp.

I do not really want to get into a political discussion on your dislike if Obama and my liking him, but you asked and I told.

In the last 5 years the Office Of the President has been seriously demeaned by repubs/tp and this I cannot accept. From shouting out "you lie" from the floor of the congress to 40% of repubs/tp refusing to believe he was born in the U.S. and at the same time saying that Raphael Eduardo Cruz is eligible to be President because his mother was an American citizen and at the same time refusing to believe the same as Obama's mother. The concerted effort to make Obama a failure has stopped the Repubs/tp from governing, and the massive amount of lies they tell (it's almost like they have mastered the big lie borrowed from hitler) all in an effort to defeat Obama. Everywhere the repubs/tp have been in control of state governments they have done nothing by take away peoples freedoms and that I simply cannot stand.

I would rather have an Obama as a president than anyone that the republicans/tp could put forth as there is not an honest one among the bunch.

  6. Alan Kardon says:

Edward Lobel For someone who does not want to get into a political discussion you certainly made a windy speech. I am also on Medicare. I pay more for my coverage and supplemental than I had in the past. I do not get the same benefits that I had in the past. Please tell me what supplement you have so we can be Jew helping Jew.

  7. For the life of me I can't understand why any Israel loving Jew would help and administration that is doing their best to harm Israel! It baffles me!?

  8. Edward Lobel says:

I am famous fro my rifts. I'll make this one short.
I did not feel like getting into a pro/con debate over Obama so I simply tried to answer you questions and in doing so I had to of course let you know why I think the way I do.

As for Medicare, supplemental, and Part "D" all these programs did go up slightly. My Supplemental went up about $5.00/month and my part d went up about $9.00

My supplemental is Plan F and I get it through AARP written by United Health Care. Plan D is written with Well Care.
My total medical bills are about $275/month but for that price EVERYTHING IS COVER FULLY. No co-pays, no lab fees, C-Pap and supplies fully covered, etc. I take 6 prescriptions a day and since they are all generic I do not have a co-pay. It's a flat $44/month.

My former insurance was costing about $550/month and I had co-pays between $35.00 to $45.00 for each doctor visit and $100 for each hospital visit. Plus I had a $2500.00 deductible and lab tests, x-rays, nuclear stress test were all split 80/20 so it was much more expensive than what I have now.. I see my primary care 4 ties a year and have several blood tests each time. I have type 2 and that is why I need to see her so often, I see my cardiologist 2 times a year both visits require a EKG and one visit also includes a nuclear stress test (about $1,200 each time) finally I have some foot problems and see my podiatrist 4 times a year. I paid for my drugs and the 6 items cost me about $90/month. So all in all Medicare, supplemental and part d are far les expensive than what I am paying now.

  9. Edward Lobel says:

The Jewish Press is an ultra conservative paper an because Obama is not bombing iran back to the dawn of time some Israelis think he is anti Israel and that is simply not the truth. They print all kinds of not true anti Jewish things that they say he does only because it does not agree with their editorials.

There are many more wealthy Jewish people who are Democrats that there are wealthy Jewish people who are repubs/tp/ Every Jewish Democrat supports Israel while a Jew like eric cantor has never done anything except talk with nothing to show for it. Obama has appointed more Jews (including religious Jews) to senior positions in the government including 2 Jewish supreme court Justices! He was the first President to host a Hannukah party in the white house. He has many Jewish friends and to imply that he hates Israel is really not right and a shunder!

  10. Alan Kardon says:

Are you comparing a pre Medicare plan to a Medicare advantage plan? How much has the Medicare and Medicare Advantage plan gone up over the past 4 years?
