US Weighing Release of Pollard to Save Peace Talks

The New York Times

The New York Times

According to a report on Israel Radio, the US is weighing the release of Jonathan Pollard in order to prevent Kerry’s peace talks from collapsing.

As JewishPress.com reported last week, according to statements from senior officials within the Palestinian Authority, the PA is only continuing with peace talks in order to free more terrorists from Israeli jails.

Coalition members from the Likud and Bayit Yehudi have made explicit threats that would destabilize the coalition government if the upcoming release of terrorists goes through.

Netanyahu is reportedly feeling the pressure from his ministers and coalition partners, and may not release the terrorists.

It appears that the US might be willing to:

  • free Pollard to reduce internal pressures on Netanyahu,

  • to convince Netanyahu to release the terrorists,

  • to convince the Palestinian Authority to extend the talks,

  • to prevent Kerry’s peace talks from collapsing on April 29th,

  • to prevent another major foreign policy failure for Obama,

  • so Kerry and Obama can get a Nobel prize,

  • Chad Gadya, Chad Gadya.

  3. Kay Katz says:

    Release him already.

  4. I ABSOLUTELY AND POSITIVELY AGREE WITH YOU.

  5. Aron Safran says:

As long as we don’t have to release Barghouti or any additional terrorist scumbags… just a thought about what the Americans might want in return…

  6. Beth Wright says:

He should have been released longgggg ago.

  7. dangerous lunatic. anti semite. five letters.

  8. Dov Grauman says:

Kerry was told at the beginning that there was no way Abbas was going to make a deal. Mr Peres (the alter eiber botel) says that Abbas is trhe perfect peace partner. I'm sure that even Mr. Kerry does not agree and yes Mr. Obama is going to have another disaster on his hands. Magiya lo. He was warned.

  9. Pollard should be released now, without bribery!
No more prisoners should be released at all, period! The peace talks are not going to work. Abbas is for the demise of Israel.

  10. he should have been released after israel released terrorist in the name of peace

  11. i agree beth he should have been released longggggg ago

  12. Noel Eliscu says:

prisoner releases are insane , all they do is send a message that you can kill and injure people and get away with it. i guess Israel has no capital punishment. Keeping prisoners cost money and energy an eye for an eye should be the rule. This would save millions and make people think twice before throwing a rock

  13. Sam Leshow says:

Their just waiting for a great orator and smooth talking man that has all the answers to confirm the covenant with the many in Daniel 9; 27

  14. Once again, Pollard is being used as a ploy to attack Israel. israel will be told to give up land to reward terrorism and did you know nothing about Iran nuclear program. And in exchange Pollard will be dangled around to p*** off American conservatives. I really hate to say this but the best thing for Israel would be for Pollard simply die in jail. American and Israeli Jews keep falling for this trap reminding us that parochialism trumps IQ.

  15. Let him go. No to bribery. This regime is so pathetic

  16. PRAY it will happen. 26 years are to–oo long for no guilt.

  17. You do the crime you do the time…same for the Palestinian ! This release isn’t going to bring no peace to Israel ! Why don’t the Americans release the black people in prisons…what’s good for one is good for all !

  18. Are Obama and Kerry also throwing in free hot dogs?

  19. The Palestinians DO NOT WANT {EACE.

  20. Lani Lowell says:

So that’s why Obama has been keeping him in hostage.

  21. Israel should not give up any land. Israel will not get peace by giving up land. Look what happened in Gaza. Israel gave up land and took out settlements for peace. Gazans took the land and shot rockets into Israel on the same land Israel gave for peace.

  22. Daniel Olgin says:

Pollard should be released, but it won’t help. The pal/Arabs will not end the conflict so there is no point to continue talks. Move on

  23. Do not release any other terrorist. It would be a crazy thing to do.We are the only one that gives!!!

  24. release JONATHAN POLLARD, ANYWAY. THERE IS NO PEACE WITH ABU MAZEN, Holocaust denier, Graduate of Moscow Univ, planner of MUNICH MASSACRE, co-conspirator with Arafat of STEALING Israeli lands

  25. OBAMA (Barry Soetoro) should take Pollard's place as he deserves to be in GITMO.instead of Jonathan who was incarcerated for WARNING ISRAEL about America's betrayal and is the DREYFUS of the STATE DEPT.

  26. Anonymous says:

Pollard's not a terrorist, he was an American Jewish CIA spy. He collected U.S. intelligence on Arab states, Pakistan and the Soviet Union, and especially their weapons systems (but did not divulge info on America). The Palestinians would like to torture him to death.

  27. How many Israelis will the Americans kidnap in order to get Netanyahu to participate in other actions against Israel's best interest? If it works with Pollard, perhaps Rabushkin is next!

  28. I'm sure that Jonathan Pollard would rather die in jail rather than be party to a terrorist (of the worst kind) swop. The Americans should be ashamed of their conduct regarding the jailing of Jonathan for such a long period. I have lost a lot of time for the Americans over this and even more so since BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA became President. Obama has yet to come out in his true colours during the remainder of his tenure. I must also add that I'm so pleased that Putin delivered a knock out punch against Obama and it is something that Obama will never be able to reverse.

  29. I believe that is true, because of Anti-semitism he will not be released.
