New York City Police have arrested Lillian Maduro, 49, charging her with robbery and assault for attacking a little old lady.

They found her through surveillance footage and her DNA, which was left at the scene on September 27 when she sneaked up and tried to grab the bag of 90-year-old Gina Zuckerman, a Holocaust survivor as she was heading to the senior center in the West Village.

“A woman attacked me from the back,” Zuckerman told the NY Post the day after she was attacked, explaining that she had been pushing her utility cart at the time. “She pushed me to the ground.” The wannabe mugger dug her nails into the skin of her victim’s arm, creating a bloody gash. But in the course of the clash she also left her DNA.

The elderly Jewish woman said that despite the yelling and cursing, she refused to let go of her bag. Zuckerman told reporters she had just $10 in her purse, but there were documents there as well and so she was determined not to give it up. She paid a price for that choice: She needed five stitches on her right arm because of the beating. But she kept her purse.

And she had a warning for any other wannabe attackers: “Old ladies” in the West Village do not give up their bags without a fight, she told the Post. “I would have gladly given her $5 — but I was not going to be beaten for it.”
