The venerable sage of the international wine industry, ‘Wine Spectator’ magazine, has devoted its October 2016 cover story to “The Wines of Israel: Surprising Quality from an Emerging Region.”

Forty Israeli wines earned a score of 88 out of 100 by the publication, with 75 percent rated at more than 90 percent, and only two in the non-kosher category.

The top mark (93) went to Tzora’s Misty Hills Judean Hills 2013 vintage.

Wine Spectator predicts, however, that the Israeli wine industry will maintain a small place “on the world stage… for the foreseeable future.”

Israel produces 10 million cases annually from 13,500 acres of vineyard — one fourth of California’s Sonoma Valley.
