Most of the Jerusalem under Snow (JUS) genre has been dominated by lackluster and uninspired images, but Yishai's pictures are good, solid photojournalism (because he's in radio, naturally).

The city of Jerusalem has been enduring what the news folks are saying is the biggest snow storm in a hundred years. more than 2,000 cars are stuck on the highways and in the city – all of them have been rescued, according to police and the IDF.

The highways leading to Jerusalem will remain closed to traffic.

Electricity is out in many places in the city, and authorities have clocked 25,000 emergency calls, about the blackouts and about other weather related issues.

The snow continues to fall, as of the noon news edition of Israel Radio. Jerusalem city hall is asking, no, begging motorists to stay home. Most Israeli cars are not equipped with snow tires, and most Israeli drivers are not experienced in driving in the snow. They get stuck, often after a scary glide over a surface that won’t comply.

Now to the good stuff:

Our friend and colleague Yishai Fleisher has sent us two sets of fantastic Jerusalem under snow images. Most of the genre has been dominated by lackluster and uninspired images, but Yishai’s pictures are good, solid photojournalism (because he’s in radio, naturally).

Shabbat Shalom. We hope the entire spectacle will melt away come Shabbat morning…
