Hezbollah pro-Cuba rally

A few years before the Obama administration removed Cuba from the list of terrorism-sponsoring countries, Hezbollah established an operational base in Cuba, according to intelligence received by Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State. The State Department’s latest release of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s e-mails reveals that she received a message claiming Hezbollah is seeking to set up a base in Cuba to carry out attacks in Latin America.

The author of the e-mail, former aide to President Bill Clinton and long-time associate of Hillary Clinton Sidney Blumenthal, wrote that he had received the information from “extremely sensitive sources.”

According to Naharnet, Blumenthal argued that the Mossad believed Hezbollah’s targets were “Israel’s diplomatic and business interests” in south America and the Caribbean islands. But he also said Hezbollah had been “instructed to also begin casing facilities associated with the United States and the United Kingdom, including diplomatic missions, major banks, and businesses.”

According to the e-mail, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah led the negotiations with Cuba’s DGI (Dirección de Inteligencia), vowing to keep a “very low profile inside of Cuba.”

“Nasrallah also promised to take measures to avoid any trail of evidence that could lead back to Cuba in the event of a Hezbollah attack in Latin America,” Blumenthal noted.

The State Department has so far released about 46,000 pages of emails out of a reported total of 55,000. Clinton has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, but there’s no doubt the issue will come back to haunt her should she receive the Democratic nomination.
