IDF soldiers discovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted at the point where three armed terrorists broke through the security fence into Israeli territory from northern Gaza during the day on Sunday.

At the time, the three operatives appeared to quickly retrace their steps after they had been spotted by IDF soldiers, who opened fire at them.

“The circumstances of the breach are under investigation,” the IDF said after the incident, which took place early Sunday afternoon.

“The IDF views any attempt to damage and destroy the security and defense infrastructure to be a grave threat, and will not allow the fence to be turned into a combat zone,” the IDF later said in a statement.

“The Hamas terrorist organization bears responsibility for all events that take place in and around Gaza and their consequences.”
