Despite relative stability, the IDF is bracing for possible escalation of violence in Judea and Samaria, Commander of the IDF Central Command, Major General Nitzan Alon, said at a recent Rosh Hashannah ceremony attended by community leaders and mayors from Judea and Samaria.

The Central Command encompasses Judea and Samaria.

“As commanding officers, we must prepare ourselves and our units, getting ready for the most difficult scenarios, checking our emergency storages and improving our operational plans,” Alon said, adding “We must act as foresters when the forest is very flammable, and matches are spread throughout the terrain.”

Alon pointed to the unstable situation in the Palestinian Authority, stating that in past weeks the IDF has noticed an escalation in the incidents in the area, possibly the beginning of another Intifada, or an “Arab Spring” in the Palestinian Authority.

Alon also discussed the upheaval which has occurred throughout the Middle East during the past two year, which has created a new geo-strategic map and a new operational status for the State of Israel, as he termed it.

“We are concluding a securely stable year in the sector under the Central Command, which has continued to be a secondary zone,” Alon said. “We hope that the peaceful security situation will persist and will enable the Jewish communities to continue with their growth and development.”
