Palestinian Authority protesters attack Israeli security forces near the Huwara checkpoint, near Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria on December 15, 2017.

The United States Consulate General in Jerusalem on Tuesday evening (Feb. 27) issued a “demonstration alert” to American citizens living in Israel and surrounds.

The alert warns Americans there are likely to be “anti-American protests or demonstrations … throughout the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) on Wednesday, February 28, 2018,” but does not explain what could be sparking this violence.

Nor does the alert warn citizens who may be perpetrating the demonstrations. However, the risk is severe enough that the Consulate General is “prohibiting official travel into the West Bank” on Wednesday. The alert adds, “Employees of the U.S. Consulate General and their family members continue to be prohibited from personal travel into the West Bank except for the use of Route 443. You may want to consider this information when making your own local travel plans.”

In addition, the Consulate General provides helpful tips on how to stay safe:

Actions to Take:

· Avoid the areas of the protests/demonstrations.

– Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.

· Monitor local media for updates.

· Keep a low profile.

Gee, sounds pretty dangerous out there. Wouldn’t the average person want to know who’s behind the threat, and what their motivation is?
