In an op-ed in Ma’ariv today, former Israeli Cabinet Secretary and Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office Shmuel Hollander wrote that creating a Palestinian state would mean a Hamas takeover in Judea and Samaria and an “Iranian outpost a few kilometers from the center of the country.”
“Even if there wasn’t a single settlement in the territories of Judea and Samaria, it wouldn’t be possible to arrive at a lasting peace. Whoever accuses the government of stopping the diplomatic process and promises to change the situation, is selling the public illusions with no basis in reality.”
“It’s better to tell the truth: it has been decreed upon us to fight for our country and our lives and live by our swords for much longer.”
Hollender served as cabinet secretary under Prime Ministers Yitzchak Rabin and Shimon Peres. He then served as Civil Service commissioner for 14 years. In 2012 he took up the position of ombudsman of the Conference of Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (the “Claims Conference”).Daniel Tauber
